When we talk about design, typography stands out as one of the essential elements to consider. As a primary means of communication, its relevance is on a par with the importance of images and colours and makes all the difference in a brand's visual identity. Why is it important? In order to accurately convey the essence of a brand, the choice of typography must be made carefully and thoughtfully. Each typeface has a distinct personality that triggers specific associations in the consumer's mind. In this way, typography is a decisive factor in the effectiveness of communication because it is capable of evoking emotions related to the brand's message and image. For example: if the intention is to convey a classic, serious and formal image, or, conversely, a relaxed, informal and fun atmosphere, the choice of font must be adapted to those very intentions. What types of typography are there?
  • Serif Fonts: The oldest and most traditional. They convey trust and respect.
  • Sans-serif Fonts: Neutral and contemporary. They reveal simplicity.
  • Script Fonts: They imitate handwritten calligraphy. They express more feeling and creativity.
Points to consider: The selection of typography can determine factors such as the legibility of the message and eye fatigue. Typographic characteristics, such as line length and font size, must be weighed up to obtain optimised results for each particular situation. The choice of font is also influenced by the objective - is the artwork to be printed or for digital use? For example, serif fonts may be less legible on websites, whereas sans-serif fonts are more recommended for blocks of text because they convey modernity and fluidity.
